The other option is a linear actuator - which personally I prefer over solenoids. You should easily find something with googling "ardiuno linear actuator" (Lot more out there for the Arduino just because it's been around so long - same ideas/concerns apply). Watch your current draw even with a relay. The RPi GPIO ports are pretty picky. Robert F.
