In the University environment, with users distributed all across campus, I really don't want unencrypted user names, passwords, and sensitive data on the wire. Good, free packet sniffers are all to easy to come by.


I've never tried it, but it should be possible with a Windows SSH client that supports tunneling setup. Here's an example of how to tunnel SMB shares:
