I have to disagree with Bruce, and say that despite what Bruce was told in
Sunday school, there is very little about the Judeo-Christian-Islamic God
that *is* a mystery. (By the JCI God, I mean the one of public discourse,
who's sayings are, more or less, recorded in the 2 testaments and the
Koran.) We know this fellow's views on practically every single topic, we
know what pushes his buttons, we know what his main hobbies are, what his
obsessions are, what his morality is, we know just where he thinks he
rates in the scheme of things, ... Think about it: we have thousands of
pages of his recorded sayings, supposedly. How much more could you wish to
have available about a public figure before you concluded that you knew
him thoroughly?

Simply put, if you ran into this guy at a party, you'd be able to identify
him in an instant.

In human terms, all we don't know about the JCI God are the psychological
factors that induced him to adopt his (often bizarre) views. But of
course, until we get a more thorough understanding about how mind arises
from neurological functioning, we don't even know that about ourselves.

Cheers,

David
