I have just finished the first draft of a paper on Cox's Theorem that I wrote in response to Joseph Halpern's paper purporting to disprove Cox's Theorem. I would appreciate any comments the members of this list might have. I am especially interested in comments from people skeptical of Bayesian methods and from people who have had little or no prior exposure to Cox's Theorem. Is my presentation of Cox's Theorem convincing? Have I succeeded in making clear the meaning of Cox's Theorem and the assumptions behind it? Is the proof clear enough that you could explain the gist of it to another person after one reading? The paper is in postscript form at http://www.xmission.com/~ksvhsoft/cox.ps or ftp://ftp.xmission.com/~ksvhsoft/cox.ps. (You can also get it compressed: cox.ps.gz.) As this is only a first draft, and I have not yet submitted it for publication, please do not redistribute this paper. I will remove it after a week or so. -- Kevin S. Van Horn
