I'll keep this brief as it is a little off topic...but also something I
think people should think about when writing to this list!

As the Editor of New Scientist recently put it, this is 'latent
hemispherism'. He described this as an unspoken assumption that just
because it's summer in London, it's summer everywhere else in the world.
A past assumption made by New Scientist when publishing it's 'Summer
Edition'.
Although I don't take particular offence at the assumption that it was
spring when the aforementioned discussions took place, the use of such
hemicentric terms is perhaps not appropriate when talking to a global
community! Some may (and do) see this as elitist, even if it were not
intended to be!
Just something to think about for the future!
