                RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP and RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP 
                            IN DECISION MODELING
        
                       Clinical Decision Systems Group
                         Medical Informatics Program
                       National University of Singapore


Applications are invited for a RESEARCH FELLOW position and a RESEARCH
ASSISTANT position in the Clinical Decision Systems Group of the
Medical Informatics Program at the National University of Singapore
(NUS). The positions are tenable at the Department of Computer Science,
School of Computing.

The Medical Informatics Program is a multi-disciplinary research
initiative involving participation from various Faculties and Research 
Institutes at NUS, as well as local and international institutions and
hospitals. The Program aims to undertake basic and applied R&D, and to
establish a foundation for a center of excellence in medical
informatics in Singapore and the Asian-Pacific region.

Current research focus of the Clinical Decision Systems Group includes
the following areas:

* Technical foci:

        * Automated decision making over time and under uncertainty
        * Knowledge acquisition from multiple knowledge sources
        * Time-critical dynamic decision modeling

* Medical informatics foci:

        * Intelligent prognostic modeling
        * Automated generation of clinical practice guidelines

Academic staff and collaborators of the Clinical Decision Systems
Group include computer scientists, engineers, and medical doctors at
NUS, National University Hospital, Singapore General Hospital, Tan
Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore, and University of Pittsburgh,
University of Wisconsin, Milwalkee, Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard
Medical School, and Johns Hopkins Hospital in the USA. 

Candidates for the Research Fellow position should have a Ph.D. in
computer science, medical informatics, or related
disciplines. Candidates for the Research Assitant position should have
a B.Sc. in computer science or related disciplines. Strong background
in probabilistic reasoning, artificial intelligence, decision theory,
and statistics required. Background in database, network computing,
and medical informatics desirable. Excellent programming skills in
Java, Lisp, and/or C++ necessary for the Research Assitant position.

The appointments are initially tenable for one year; renewal is
possible. The appointees will participate in one or more on-going
projects.

Gross monthly emoluments are as follow (S$1.7 = US$1)

Research Fellow         -        S$3270 to S$6190
Research Assistant      -        S$2380 to S$3190

The commencing salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications, 
experience and level of appointment. Leave and medical benefits will
be provided.
