A Special Issue of Quality and Reliability Engineering International on:
Computer Network Security

NONG YE, Guest Editor
Arizona State University

The objective of this special issue is to promote research and
development on statistical data analysis for computer network
security. As we increasingly rely on computer network systems
to support critical operations in defense, banking, telecommunication,
transportation, electric power and many other systems, computer network =

security must be maintained to assure the availability, integrity and
confidentiality of computer network systems. Intrusions into computer
network systems have presented significant threats to computer
network security. Statistical data analysis is required to lay the
foundation for preventing, detecting, tolerating, and responding to
intrusions, and thus assuring computer network security.
Special characteristics of computer network systems and data from
those systems have presented considerable challenges and unique
opportunities for researchers in the field of quality/reliability
engineering to develop and advance theories and techniques of
statistical data analysis for computer system security.
Through this special issue, we wish to highlight the growing
attention given to research into this new frontier.

This special issue solicits papers reporting research work,
case studies, and technology development that address
quality/reliability problems for computer network security
and statistical data analysis to tackle those problems.
Some examples of quality/reliability problems for computer
network security are listed below:
        Risk analysis and assessment to reveal vulnerabilities
      of computer network systems;
        Reliability analysis of program code;
        Process modeling and analysis to detect intrusions; and
        Design of redundancy for intrusion tolerance.
Papers addressing other quality/reliability problems for computer
network security are also welcome.
