The 8th Ibero-American Conference on Artificial Intelligent (IBERAMIA)
will
take place at Seville (Spain) in november 12-15, 2002.
The scientific program of IBERAMIA 2002 will consist of:
. Main Conference.
. Associated workshops.
. Tutorials.
. Awards to the best papers and doctoral works.

The Main Conference will be structured along two main modules:
. Papers (Paper Track).
. Contributions from Iberoamerica (Open Discussion Track).
There will be two types of lectures:
. Presentations of the papers accepted by the Program Committee
carried out by the corresponding authors.
. Speeches about the topics of the Congress given by invited
speakers.
The difference between the Paper Track and the Open Discussion Track
sessions is the presentation language. Papers submitted to the Paper
Track should be written in English, whereas papers submitted to the Open
Discussion Track may be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English.
The Paper Track session is intended for the AI International Community.
Papers submitted should present substantial new results in theoretical,
empirical and applied research in all areas of Artificial Intelligence.
IBERAMIA 2002 allows simultaneous submission of papers to other
conferences, provided this fact is clearly indicated when submitting.
Accepted Paper Track papers will appear in the Springer Verlag's
LNCS/LNAI (Lecture Notes in Computer Science / Lecture Notes in
Artificial Intelligence) series conference proceedings only if they are
withdrawn from other conferences. All authors of accepted papers will be
required to sign copyright release forms, and one author of each
accepted paper will be required to attend the conference to present the
paper. Furthermore, it is the conference policy that at least one of the
authors of accepted papers has to register IBERAMIA 2002 by october
15th, 2002. Otherwise the paper will not be included in the proceedings.
The Programm Committee will select some papers for publication in a
special issue on Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems (IOS Press). The
authors of the selected papers suitable to the scope of the journal will
be invited to submit extended version of their paper. These extended
papers are subject for another review.
The Open Discussion Track is composed of working sessions devoted to the
most important areas of research in Ibero-American countries. This track
is intended to showcase promising new directions and allow feedback on
preliminary work. Submissions of challenge and position papers are also
solicited. IBERAMIA 2002 especially encourages students from
Ibero-American countries to submit their preliminary doctoral work.
Papers submitted to the Open Discussion Track may be written in
Portuguese, Spanish or English. They should be high in interest and
potential, but will typically contain only preliminary results and
analysis. Papers accepted for this track will be presented at the
conference and will be published in a local edition (ISBN).

Awards
IBERAMIA 2002 will give the following awards:
. Jos� Negrete award to the best paper at IBERAMIA 2002
. Jos� Cuena award to the best doctoral work done at iberoamerican
universities
. Award to the best work presented at the Open Discussion Track
. Award to the best master work done at iberoamerican universities
The awards will be given during the Conference.
People interested in the best doctoral or master work awards should send
a copy of their work in PDF format to the email address
