Dear Colleague
I would like to remind you that the IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance, 2003, and associated workshops ELISA, SCAM, and WSE, will be held 22-26 September, 2003 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Outstanding Keynotes, Research papers, Fast Track papers, Industrial Applications papers, Tutorials, Dissertation Forum, workshops, panels, and other exciting activities have been planned. We hope that this \"Call For Papers\" will be useful for your work. Please forward it to anybody who you think may be interested. Our apologies if you received multiple copies of this. There is a single submission deadline and a single submission URL for all types of submission - Research papers, Fast Track papers, Industrial Applications papers, and Dissertations. The submission deadline is 1 March, 2003. The submission URL is http://www.cs.vu.nl/icsm2003/submission.html If you would like to be removed from our list please send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICSM 2003 Program Co-Chairs Shari Lawrence Pfleeger, RAND, USA ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Chris Verhoef, Vrije Universiteit, The Netherlands ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) ================================================================= IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance 2003 Sponsored by IEEE ICSM-2003, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 22-26 September, 2003 http://www.cs.vu.nl/icsm2003 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Call for Papers Theme: The architecture of existing systems The International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM) is the world\'s major international conference for software and systems maintenance, evolution, and management. We invite you to join us in exploring issues related to maintaining operational systems and designing, building, testing, and evolving maintainable systems. ICSM-2003 will address the major challenges confronting maintenance and evolution. We will concentrate on identifying new opportunities for collaboration between researchers and practitioners. The focus of this year\'s conference will be \"the architecture of existing systems\". Our keynote speakers set the tone for the discussions to follow. Alexander Rinnooy Kan (ING Group, The Netherlands) will share his insights in managing multi-billion dollar IT budgets. Chuck Howell (MITRE, USA) will present his work on assurance arguments: formal documentation of why we should trust a piece of software. He will address the need to maintain the assurance argument as the software evolves. Henk Obbink (Philips Research, The Netherlands) will discuss work on software architecture and its connection to existing systems. He will dive into issues like product families and software architecture recovery. ICSM-2003 will offer technical presentations and demonstrations from academia and industry. We are particularly interested in exchanging ideas about concepts, prototypes, research, and other efforts that could contribute to the academic body of useful information while at the same time benefiting business and the industrial community. To that end, ICSM-2003 will be participatory, involving working collaborative sessions and presentations of industry projects as well as the more traditional presentations. Topics of interest include but are not restricted to the following aspects of maintenance and evolution: * maintaining reusable components * agile methods for maintenance * maintenance of agile-produced software * maintaining requirements * financial / economical aspects of software maintenance * software architecture recovery * the architecture of existing systems * system understanding * automated software maintenance RESEARCH PAPERS Research papers should describe original and significant work in the research and practice of software maintenance and evolution. Case studies, empirical research, and well-designed experiments are particularly welcome. We also welcome papers that present leading edge and novel ideas in maintenance. Research papers must not exceed 10 pages in final printed form. To encourage strong submissions a prize will be awarded for the \"Best Paper as Submitted\". This prize is offered by John Wiley & Sons, publishers of the Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution. The Program Committee will select the winner and a formal presentation of the Prize will be made in Amsterdam at ICSM-2003. FAST TRACK PAPERS Fast Track papers should describe on-going research activities or summarize an experience in software maintenance and evolution. Fast Track papers must not exceed 4 pages in final printed form. DISSERTATION FORUM We welcome submissions of researchers that have delivered their dissertation (Masters or PhD) in the last three years. An award will be given for the best submission. Four page summaries of the accepted dissertations will be included in the conference proceedings and a special forum session will be organized at the conference. INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS Proposals for presentations of Industrial Applications are welcome. These can be state-of-the-art descriptions, experience reports, and survey reports from real projects, industrial practices and models, or tool demonstrations. A one-page summary of accepted proposals will be included in the conference proceedings. MEDIA AND STYLE Submissions will be accepted only as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat PDF, or PostScript electronic submission. All submissions must be in English. IMPORTANT DATES Submission deadline: 1 March, 2003. Acceptance notification: 16 May, 2003. Final version due: 5 July, 2003. SUBMISSION METHOD The submission URL is http://www.cs.vu.nl/icsm2003/submission.html Papers can also be submitted via email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Ralf Lmmel).
