**Application for a PhD studentship**

  *We are looking for a graduate to carry out a doctoral dissertation
at the Decision Analysis Group (Artificial Intelligence Department,
School of Computer Science, Technical University of Madrid),
who applies for a PhD studentship, within the Postgraduate National Program
for University Teachers Training.

  *The Decision Analysis Group is made up of 10 teachers
showing interest in theoretical and practical aspects of Decision
Analysis, Bayesian statistical inference and Simulation (see
http://www.dia.fi.upm.es/grupos.htm). Specifically, the topic for this thesis
focuses on solving some statistical problems via a kind of evolutionary
computation that uses Bayesian networks. Therefore, it is located within the
interface Statistics - Decision Analysis - Artificial Intelligence.

  *The PhD program in "Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence" at the 
Artificial Intelligence of the Computer Science School (Technical Univ of 
Madrid) has won several times the mention of quality doctorate by the Ministry 
(see http://www.dia.fi.upm.es/doctorado/infodoctorado.htm).

  *These studentships are granted by the Education Ministry on September
to promote the doctorate training and to direct the professional activity 
towards teaching and research. The studentship is full time, for a period of 
(at most) 4 years, salary is 1000 euro per month, free of registration fee for 
doctorate, there are economic aids for short stays in Spain or abroad, etc.

  *Applicants must have a MSc degree or equivalent in the area of statistics.  
A MSc degree in Computer Science with knowledge of probabilistic reasoning in 
AI is also allowable. Also, they must be of EU nationality or resident in 
Spain at the application time.

It is not necessary to be Spanish-speaking (English is enough).
