I'm looking for a post-doc to work on a project that seeks to apply prior, qualitative knowledge for formulate and solve machine learning problems. Our goal is to learn quickly from small samples by exploiting prior knowledge. Application problems involve intelligent user interfaces and modeling the spread of West Nile Virus. Funding is available for the first year with 2 more years possible.
Oregon State University School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Research Associate position starting January 2004. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in computer science or related field. Experience in artificial intelligence research as evidenced by having at least two research publications in the following areas: machine learning, probabilistic reasoning, knowledge representation and reasoning, search, intelligent user interfaces, or intelligent personal assistants. Experience in at least two of the following areas: knowledge representation in a logical framework, knowledge representation in a probabilistic framework, inference in logical frameworks, inference in probabilistic frameworks, or machine learning application work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent software engineering skills, excitement about computer science research, and the ability to manage graduate and undergraduate students working on research projects.
