Workshop Announcement and Preliminary Call for Papers
Tenth International Workshop on Non-Monotonic Reasoning
Delta Whistler Resort Hotel, Whistler BC, Canada, June 6-8, 2004
(Co-located with KR2004, ICAPS 2004, and DL 2004)
http://pims.math.ca/science/2004/NMR/
Aims and scope
The NMR workshop series is the premier specialised forum for researchers
in nonmonotonic reasoning and related areas. This will be the 10th
workshop in the series. Its aim is to bring together active researchers
in the broad area of nonmonotonic reasoning, including belief revision,
reasoning about actions, planning, logic programming, causality,
probabilistic and possibilistic approaches to KR, and other related
topics. Workshop activities will include invited talks, tutorials,
presentations of technical papers and special sessions.
Although workshop fees have yet to be determined, the intent is to have
no increase in fees for regular attendees, and a significant reduction
in fees for graduate students.
NMR 2004 will be composed of six specialised subworkshops:
* Foundations of Nonmonotonic Reasoning
* Computational Aspects of NonmonotonicReasoning
* Action and Causality
* Belief Change
* Uncertainty Frameworks
* Argument, Dialogue and Decision
Information on the subworkshops may be accessed from the workshop home
page. As well, this year, as part of the ``Computational Aspects of
NMR'' subworkshop, there will be a session for demonstrations of
implemented NMR systems.
As part of the program of the 10th workshop, we will assess the status
of the field after the 25 years since its inception, and discuss issues
such as:
* recent achievements in the theory and automation of NMR
* critical short and long term goals for NMR
* emerging new research directions in NMR
* practical applications of NMR
* significance of NMR to KR and AI in general
Topics of Interest
NMR'04 welcomes the submission of papers broadly centred on issues and
research in nonmonotonic reasoning. We welcome papers of either a
theoretical or practical nature.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* foundations of non-monotonic reasoning
* belief revision and information fusion
* reasoning and decision-making under uncertainty
* answer set programming
* belief updating and inconsistency handling
* default reasoning, similarity-based reasoning
* empirical studies of reasoning strategies
* representing actions and planning
* argument-based nonmonotonic logics
* abductive reasoning
* algorithms and implementations
* nonmonotonic logics in multiagent interaction, including
negotiation and dispute resolution.
Submission of Paper
Papers should be submitted to the program chair of the appropriate
subworkshop; if it is not clear which subworkshop is most appropriate,
please submit directly to the workshop Program Chairs (see email
addresses below).
We strongly encourage electronic submission of papers. To submit a paper
electronically, send an email message to both of the subworkshop Program
Co-Chairs that includes the following information:
* Paper title (plain text),
* Author names (plain text),
* Surface mail and email address for a contact author (plain text),
* A short abstract including keywords (plain text),
* Paper body (PDF format).
Format requirements for regular NMR submissions are 12 pages excluding the
title page and bibliography, with a maximum of 38 lines per page and an
average of 75 characters per line (corresponding to the LaTeX article-style,
12pt). For an implemented system, authors should submit a 6 page system
description to the ``Computational Aspects of NMR'' subworkshop.
Authors unable to submit papers electronically should send the first
four items electronically to the appropriate subworkshop Program
Co-Chairs, and one copy of the complete paper to appropriate subworkshop
Program Co-Chairs. Acknowledgments will be sent within a week after the
deadline of receipt.
Informal proceedings containing accepted papers and other workshop
materials will be distributed at the meeting. In addition, they will be
published on the web.
Important dates
* Submission of papers: February 27, 2004
* Acceptance decision by: March 31 2004
* Camera ready copy due: April 30, 2004
* Conference Dates: June 6-8, 2004.
