**** Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this announcement ***** Call for Papers: SIAM Bioinformatics Workshop 2004 http://www.ist.temple.edu/sbw04 April 24, 2004 To be held at the Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort, Lake Buena Vista, FL in conjunction with the Fourth SIAM International Conference on Data Mining (http://www.siam.org/meetings/sdm04) IMPORTANT DATES: January 21, 2004: Paper submission deadline February 20, 2004: Acceptance notification to authors March 15, 2004: Camera-ready paper for workshop proceedings April 24, 2004: Workshop The aim of this workshop is to bring together bioinformatics and data mining researchers in order to facilitate discussions of recent research developments including significant work-in-progress and to explore new challenges at the interface of these disciplines. The workshop will consist of invited talks, peer-reviewed contributions and software demonstrations covering a broad range of bioinformatics topics. All accepted papers will be published in the Workshop Proceedings. Selected papers will be considered for a journal publication. TOPICS: A general collection of relevant subjects includes but is not limited to: - - Methods for - - descriptive modeling of biomedical data (e.g. visualization and clustering of high dimensional data, estimating probability distributions; bias and noise characterization); - predictive modeling of biomedical data (e.g. gene prediction, protein structure prediction, detection of drug targets; disease diagnosis and prognosis); - finding patterns and rules in biomedical data (e.g. homology analysis, associations discovery, Bayesian analysis); - information retrieval from unstructured and semi-structured biomedical data; - Applications in - gene expression analysis (e.g. pathway-based characterization, expression profile comparison, and advanced statistical analysis); - protein structure analysis and functional annotation; - regulatory networks; - comparative genomics. PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Authors are requested to submit full papers that are limited to 10 pages (including figures, references, and tables). They should be single spaced, two column, 10 point, with 1 inch margin all around. Submit papers electronically to [EMAIL PROTECTED] in PDF format and also provide title and abstract as plain text.
