[Apologies for multiple postings]
Combination of information from various sources plays a central role in
knowledge-based systems. The importance of these systems has continued
to grow as a consequence of the proliferation of complex information
processing architectures incorporating a wide variety of sensing, computing,
and communication devices. Many of these architectures are capable of handling
uncertain information. The scope of application of information-fusion
techniques has
also widened to include problems in areas such as bioinformatics, medicine, and
fault diagnosis. An important, but often overlooked, aspect of such
knowledge-based
systems is the issue of dependence among information items.
We seek papers addressing this problem within any of the following formalisms:
fuzzy logic, Dempster-Shafer theory, probability theory and imprecise
probability theory.
In particular, submissions of papers on the following topics are encouraged:
- Modeling of particular forms of dependence among information items
- Demonstration of the importance of information dependence
- Techniques to represent, analyze, and combine dependent information items
- Evaluations of the merits of existing techniques for dealing with information
dependence
Tentative deadlines:
Deadline for paper submission: November 30, 2008
Notification of acceptance: March 15, 2009
Deadline for final paper submission: June 15, 2009
Submission guidelines:
Please submit articles via the online system http://ees.elsevier.com/ija/ ,
