Intelligent Optimisation in Energy-Efficient Smart Buildings
There is a postdoctoral researcher position available at the Cork Constraint Computation Centre (4C) in intelligent optimisation and decision support in the operation of smart buildings for energy efficiency, on the ITOBO project (http://zuse.ucc.ie/itobo). ITOBO is a multi-disciplinary, multi-institution research project, funded by Science Foundation Ireland, studying the ICT developments required for the next generation of energy efficient buildings. The project scope includes integrated information models for buildings, sensor/actuator networks, control systems, and IT architectures. 4C's role in the project is to develop the decision support and optimisation techniques needed for this environment, including automated configuration of smart buildings, user preference modeling, and collaborative scheduling of maintenance operations. The appointed researcher will work with Dr Nic Wilson, Dr Ken Brown, Professor Gene Freuder and the other members of the 4C ITOBO team, and will involve close collaboration with the other ITOBO academic and industry partners. Successful candidates should have a PhD and a good honours degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, and should have experience in one or more of the following areas: reasoning with preferences and/or uncertainty, optimisation techniques, Artificial Intelligence, user modelling, control theory, sensor networks. CORK CONSTRAINT COMPUTATION CENTRE (4C) The Cork Constraint Computation Centre (http://www.4c.ucc.ie) at University College Cork in Ireland is one of the leading academic centres of constraint programming research in the world, and a major centre of research in Artificial Intelligence. The centre has about 50 staff members, including academics, research staff and students, from over a dozen countries and collaborates with researchers from many countries. It, therefore, has considerable experience absorbing non-Irish including non-EU researchers into its organisation. 4C is collaborating on research projects with a number of companies and has an Industry Associates Program (www.4c.ucc.ie/iap) with over 50 members. 4C is situated close to the centre of Cork City, and a short walk from the main University College Cork campus.
