The Schlumberger Gould Research Centre offers a stimulating and vibrant

We are seeking a talented, creative scientist to work in our
multidisciplinary team charged with creating novel drilling technologies
and techniques to access and enable development of hydrocarbon reservoirs.
Achieving reservoir access often involves drilling and navigating through
geometrically complex, extended conduits in sometimes unpredictable
physical environments to reach targets more than 10 km from the drilling
rig. 

Schlumberger is developing new drilling systems, which will have high
degree of autonomy with supervisory control and will change the way the
industry drills wells.  As part of our commitment to innovation, the
Schlumberger Gould Research Centre is seeking research scientists to focus
on the fundamental science and technology needed to develop these systems.


Job Description

Successful Research Scientists will work on challenging problems,
developing new drilling systems, are good communicators, enjoy solving
problems, and work well in teams.

Responsibilities

       Develops and applies techniques for automated planning and
decision-making for drilling operations.
       Considers uncertainty, measurement delay and cost optimization.
       Tests and validates systems through simulations and full-scale
experiments conducted at drilling rigs.
       Maintains and expands knowledge of planning and other related fields.
       Publishes research papers, writes and presents internal technical
reports and patents. 

Qualifications
       PhD degree in artificial intelligence or related field.
       Competency in algorithm development and implementation required.
       Understands automated planning, uncertain reasoning techniques, Markov
decision processes, temporal planning and POMDPs.
