OBJECTIVES
——————–
We are pleased to announce the 3rd Workshop on LifeLong User Modelling in
conjunction with UMAP 2014.

Nowadays, we are surrounded by technology that assists us in our everyday life.
We use GPS devices to navigate from A to B, we use all kind of sensors (e.g.,
in a smart home environment) that detect our activities, we query the WWW for
information while on the go and we use all kinds of devices and software to
communicate with our friends and family and share opinions, pictures, etc. With
today’s technology, we have the capability to automatically record at
largescale the places that we have been to, things we have seen, people we
communicate with and how active we are we’re already creating a constant
stream of data that reveals many aspects of our lives.

This creation of constant data streams offers new possibilities for
personalization but the resulting data volume raises new challenges. Analyzing
this large data corpus may enable us to better understand ourselves: What are
my habits and interests? Or, even help us answer more specific questions: Do I
live a healthy life? Answering such questions can lead to a more selfaware
lifestyle. One big challenge is the creation and management of longterm, even
life long, user models. These must capture salient aspects about the user over
very long periods of time, possibly spanning periods from early childhood into
old age. These models have to handle changing interests over time. Also, such
lifelong user models have to be usable by different applications. Other
challenges pertain to processing big personal data and identifying user
interests, skills etc. and their usage in real world systems like health or
recommendation systems. Following the first two successful Workshops on
Lifelong User Modelling which were held in conjunction with UMAP 2009 and 2013,
respectively, this workshop aims to engage researchers from both user modelling
and ubiquitous computing communities to discuss emerging research trends in
this field.

TOPICS
——————–

The workshop aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas between the different
research communities and practitioners involved in the research on lifelong
user modeling and lifelogging. The workshop will focus on the following topics
and questions:

Collection and Management of lifelong User Data

  * Lifelogging techniques, sensor networks, wearable devices for collecting
user information such as behavior or biometric data
  *   Connected Living
  * Standards, specifications for lifelong User Models
  * Interoperability, semantics for reusing and sharing user data

Personalization and Adaptation with lifelong user models

  * Modeling the user from continuous data streams
  * Storage and analysis of Big Data

Implications of lifelong User Modeling for the User

  * Evolution, temporal aspects, changing interests over time
  * Evaluation methodologies and metrics for lifelong user models
  * Privacy, perceived security and trust for lifelong User Models
  * User awareness and control over their own data
  * User preferences for managing long term personal data

Applications of LifeLong User Modeling

  * Quantified Self and eHealth domain
  *   Lifelong learning and support
  *   Information visualization
  *   Learning analytics

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
——————–

All papers must represent original and unpublished work that is not currently
under review. All submissions will be reviewed by at least 3 members of the
workshop committee and will be evaluated according to their significance,
originality, technical content, style, clarity, and relevance to the workshop.
At least one author of each accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop.

Full papers should be 4-10 pages. Submissions must adhere to the Springer LNCS
format (see the example document with author instructions), and be made through
the EasyChair conference
system<https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=llum14>.

Accepted papers will be published online in a combined UMAP Workshop & Poster
Proceedings volume of the CEUR workshop proceedings.
