One billion years of evolution leading up to one race...
*** THE DICTY WORLD RACE IS ON! ***
Do you have what it takes to pick the world’s fastest and smartest slime molds?
Don't miss an exciting event that intersects science and sports: The Dicty
World Race. The race is happening right now, the afternoon of Friday May 16!
The slime mold race is all to benefit science – and your health. Dicty and
HL60 cells are racing for the title of "fastest & smartest". Both cell types
are models for studying human neutrophils, the white blood cells protecting us
from infections. Neutrophils are often perturbed during disease and today we
have no drugs to correct their migration when that happens. The race organizers
recruited 20 of the top science labs around the world to fine-tune the cells to
compete in the Race. To make things even more exciting, one of the teams will
win the Grand Prize of $5,000!
