Dear all

As Publicity Chair of IJCAI-ECAI 2018 I send this Call for Demos.

The 27th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI),
joint with the 23rd European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI), will
be held in Stockholm, Sweden, from July 13th to July 19th, 2018. The technical
program committee invites the submission of demos.

The primary goals of the Demonstration Track are: first, to provide a good
platform for exchanging ideas between theory and practice; secondly, to
showcase the applicability of different AI technologies to real-world problems.

Attached is the Call for Demonstration Tracks, both the txt and html versions.

Best Regards/
Mikael

IJCAI-ECAI 2018 Demonstration Track: Call for Demos

The 27th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI),
joint with the 23rd European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI), will
be held in Stockholm, Sweden, from July 13th to July 19th, 2018. The technical
program committee invites the submission of demos.

The primary goals of the Demonstration Track are: first, to provide a good
platform for exchanging ideas between theory and practice; secondly, to
showcase the applicability of different AI technologies to real-world problems.

Due to its interest, the AI Communications journal offers a fast-track review
of extended versions of a selection of accepted submissions to the
Demonstration Track of IJCAI-ECAI 2018.

This year, the Demonstration Track introduces two novelties. First, a best demo
award will be granted to the most impressive submission by the program
committee. Besides, authors will have the choice of two (non-exclusive) ways of
exposing the public to their systems. The first way, as was the case for
previous editions of IJCAI, consists in interacting with the public at a
demonstration booth. The second way, which we call "demo talks", consists in
video-projecting the demo, in 10 minutes maximum, in a regular session room in
conditions similar to those of regular talks. Authors of demos can choose to
apply for demo mode 1 (traditional), demo mode 2 (demo talk), or both demo
modes 1 and 2.

*** Topics

As the premier general conference on AI, IJCAI-ECAI 2018 welcomes submissions
across all areas of AI and the Demonstration Track of IJCAI-ECAI 2018 follows
the same principle, though with an emphasis on the applicability of AI to real
practice. Thus, the track scope includes (but is not limited to) the following
subfields of AI:

        • Computer Vision
        • Constraint Programming
        • Game Playing
        • Heuristic Search
        • Human-Computer Interactive Systems
        • Machine Learning
        • Multi-agent systems
        • Natural Language Processing
        • Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
        • Planning and Scheduling
        • Recommender Systems
        • Speech Processing
        • Uncertainty in AI

Please note that Robotics is not included since IJCAI-ECAI 2018 will also have
a Robotics Showcase and we encourage robotics demonstrations to be submitted
there (http://ijcai-18.org/Robotics.html).

We encourage all submissions that describe the relevance of some field of AI to
real-world problems. Demos are expected to show the applicability of different
AI techniques with a strong emphasis on the issues that have to be addressed to
bring these to practice.

In particular, we also encourage submitters to the Main Track of IJCAI-ECAI
2018 to showcase their systems in the Demonstration Track. Doing so requires
submitting your work twice (see Submission Details and Review Process). Note,
however, that the main track and demo track are run separately and no explicit
coordination is offered, which suggests that while one submission might be
accepted in one track, it might be rejected (or not) in the other.

Industrial researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit their works
to the Demonstration track.

*** Important Dates

        • Submission: April 2, 2018 (11:59pm UTC-12)
        • Notification of acceptance/rejection: May 2, 2018
        • Camera-ready copy due: May 16, 2018

*** Submission Details and Review Process

Formatting Guidelines, LaTeX Styles and Word Template can be downloaded at
http://www.ijcai.org/authors_kit

Demonstration Track Submission link: http://ijcai-demos.confmaster.net/

The submitted document must be a single PDF with the following contents,
depending on the chosen demo mode(s):

        • In all cases: a maximum-of-3-page paper in which the authors
describe the system to be demonstrated. The paper should describe the
application domain, the problem scenario, the technology used, the AI
techniques involved, the original contribution and innovations of the system,
live and interactive aspects, etc. Papers must be prepared in PDF format using
the IJCAI style. Submissions are NOT anonymous. The page limit is 3 pages in
total: 2 pages for the main text (including all figures but excluding
references), and one additional page for references. Over-length papers will be
rejected without review.

        • If the authors want to present in a demo talk, a URL linking to a
demonstration video (e.g., YouTube) no more than 10 minutes in length showing
what will be projected on screen. Otherwise, the authors have the choice of
submitting a URL linking to a demonstration video no more than 10 minutes in
length (e.g., YouTube) or a Powerpoint presentation showing and explaining what
happens. Other formats are also possible if they can more clearly illustrate
the demo. The objective is to give a precise idea of what the demo will look
like.

        • For a presentation in the traditional mode, the authors should
provide a list of requirements/description of the demo setting, for example,
floor space, table, poster, monitor, potential noise/sound issues etc. This
list should be attached to the paper in a separate page. This will not be part
of the final paper.

Submitted papers must be formatted according to the IJCAI guidelines and
submitted electronically through the submission link mentioned above. At least
one author of each accepted paper is required to attend the conference to
present the work. Authors will be required to agree to this requirement at the
time of submission. All technical papers are due electronically on April 2,
2018 (11:59pm UTC- 12). Submissions received after the deadline or that do not
meet the length or formatting requirements will not be considered for review
(see Submission Details). No email or fax submissions will be accepted.
Notification of receipt of an electronically submitted paper will be emailed to
the designated contact author soon after receipt. If there are problems with
the electronic submission, the Demonstration Program Chair will contact the
designated author by email. The designated author will be emailed the
notification of acceptance or rejection by May 2, 2018.

Papers will be reviewed by program committee members. Selection criteria
include originality, innovation, applicability and potential benefits of the
resulting system. Note that there will be no rebuttal phase.

*** Keywords

When submitting their paper, authors will be required to choose content area
keywords. General categories should only be used if specific categories do not
apply or do not accurately reflect the main contributions. The full list of
keywords will be available on the submission site.

*** Logistics

Researchers and practitioners showing a demonstration are required to bring all
necessary equipment and material for the successful operation of their exhibit.
IJCAI will provide shipping instructions, if needed, for the delivery of
material to the conference site. Special electrical connections must be
arranged through the Demonstration Program Chair no later than 45 days prior to
the start of the conference. Electrical and Internet service will be made
available to confirmed exhibitors.

Tabletops will be allowed for every "traditional mode" demo. If available and
if space permits, additional tables or other space requirements may possibly be
provided.

*** Confidentiality Policy

All submissions will be treated in strict confidence until the publication date.

*** Conflict of Interest Policy

All people involved in the IJCAI-ECAI-18 review process adhere to the IJCAI
conflict of interest policy. Details can be found at http://ijcai.org/.

*** Enquiries

Please, send all enquiries about the Demonstration Track to the IJCAI-ECAI 2018
Demonstration Program Chair - Paul Weng <[email protected]>, UM-SJTU Joint
Institute, Shanghai, China.
