LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY hereby advertises a position as PhD student in Statistics or Computer Science formally based at the Division of Statistics and Machine Learning (STIMA) at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA)
Duties We are looking for one PhD student (for 4 years full-time) to do research in machine learning and causality together with Associate Professor Jose M. Peña. We aim to do research on the theoretical foundations of causality, develop new methods and algorithms for causal learning and inference, and applying these on real world data. We are primarily interested in using causal graphical models, although other frameworks may be considered as well. Our work is part of the project “Understanding society through register-based machine learning” leaded by the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS) at Linköping University. The project aims to use machine learning to analyze Swedish population registers in order to deepen our knowledge of key social issues. Therefore, we will collaborate with researchers at IAS and apply our findings on Swedish population register data. As a PhD student you will primarily focus on your own research and training. You are not allowed to devote more than 20 percent of your time to other tasks such as teaching and administration. Qualifications The candidate should have a Master of Science degree in a relevant subject for the PhD position such as computer science, statistics, or mathematics. The applicant is expected to have good knowledge of computer science, statistics and machine learning. Knowledge and experience in causality and/or probabilistic graphical models is advantageous. Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement. Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made directly to the following person: Jose M.
