That's close, but I think what you're looking for is this:
function cmd_blarg() {
var doc = Application.activeWindow.activeTab.document;
displayMessage(jQuery("input[name=MRN]",doc).val());
}
I used this on a data URI representing the HTML from your last email
and it seemed to work okay:
data:text/html,<input type="HIDDEN" name="MRN" value="123456789">%0A
%0A<input type="HIDDEN" name="NAME" value="John Doe">%0A<input
type="HIDDEN" name="DOB" value="1920">%0A<input type="HIDDEN"
name="SEX" value="F">
