Hi everybody,
With the Ubiquity 0.5 release date rapidly approaching (it's set for Monday,
june 22) I think it's time to freeze addition of new features in order to
focus on bug fixing, localization, and documentation.

I've created a new milestone on Trac, Ubiquity 0.5.1. This will be a minor
update released on Monday june 29, one week after Ubiquity 0.5. The minor
update can include all the features we really wanted to get into 0.5, along
with fixes for the biggest bugs that we discover only after the release of
0.5. (If experience has taught me anything, it's that there are always lots
of bugs that you don't discover until after the release, when you suddenly
have lots more users trying out the software.)

So, if there are features you wish to have added, please assign those bugs
to the 0.5.1 or 0.6 milestones, not the 0.5 milestone.

Now, about testing and fixing bugs. One of the best things you can do to
help with the release is to get the latest Ubiquity checkout from source
code (instructions here:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Ubiquity/Ubiquity_0.1_Development_Tutorial#Getting_the_Source)
and use it as much as possible, reporting any bugs that you find. In
particular, look at the bugs marked "try-to-reproduce" and see if you can
figure out the conditions under which they happen. This is a major help to
the project, and no coding is required!

Ubiquity is supposed to run on both Firefox 3.5 and Firefox 3.0.
Unfortunately there seem to be two fairly major bugs that are preventing it
from working on Firefox 3.0. Those bugs are described at:

http://ubiquity.mozilla.com/trac/ticket/717
and
http://ubiquity.mozilla.com/trac/ticket/759

These are the two most important bugs for us to fix, because many of our
users are on Firefox 3.0, and without fixes for these bugs they won't be
able to use Ubiquity at all. So, if you can, please try out the latest
Ubiquity source code version on Firefox 3.0 and see if you can figure out
any clues about what's going wrong there.

We still need work done on documentation. It would be great if anybody
could take a moment to add a couple of examples or other explanation to
their favorite commands on this page:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Ubiquity/Command_Documentation_Workspace

Finally, we are now at the point where we can start to localize the strings
to different languages. I will send a follow-up email with information
about how you can help with that, for those people who are interested in
getting involved with localizing Ubiquity to their favorite language.

Thanks for your help and support during this crunch-time, everybody!
