Just an update; satyr has been a busy bee as usual, and a fix has now been pushed to hg: https://ubiquity.mozilla.com/hg/ubiquity-firefox/rev/4c5188789534
It would be great if someone could test it out in Chinese (and other non-utf8 languages) and report back. For those not wanting to run the development version, the change will also be available in the next beta.
