To my knowledge it would be your only method. Using sed should be pretty damn easy. You'll need sshpass and hopefully all of the devices have the same user/password (or at least it's in large groups). Hell I wonder if the AirControl box installed an ssh key.
I might be able to help you later if you do the before/after config options out of /tmp/system.cfg - if it were me I'd take a backup now, make the changes manually on one, and then a simple diff will tell you what you need to change.
