CDP is considered a vulnerability by some, since it can be used to help identify types and addresses of network devices. A bad person (or bot) could use this to identify targets.
Since you asked what other purpose it served, and even though this isn't specifically UBNT, the Cisco 3560c switch will not power any up device that needs POE+ unless CDP is on. Seems it uses CDP to help determine the power needs. At least it does on the Cisco Aps. It will power a POE device just fine. Weird, huh? Just something to stick in the back of your mind. I had NO idea this would happen. That means that MikroTik Neighbor List does not show up a single AC device. Other than the loss of this functionality what other purpose does the CDP do in the network. I know it can be rather chatty as well. Pside and Down side to turning it on? Steve Barnes Wireless Operations Manager New Lisbon Broadband NLBC.COM PCSWIN.COM 765-584-2288 ext:1101
