Ubuntu has made changes to the brltty package to allow for easier configuration 
of brltty from the live CD, 
and for install. I wasn't the one who wrote the code, but I'll have a look at 
the package and see if I can 
find out why this is done, and will see if I can talk to the person who 
implemented it, to work out a 
solution.
