Unfortunately, this is not as easy as one might think, due to the way the language selection menu is done in the first place. The language selection is done by the CD boot utility, called gfxboot. Gfxboot is responsible for displaying the menu for choosing the CD options, the accessibility options, and the language selection. In order to make this speech friendly, gfxboot would have to be extended to know about sound cards, audio, and speech, which is way too much for an initial boot program. Having said that, Ii have an idea as to how this could be done, and hope to work on it for the release after Ubuntu Intrepid. What I am thinking of doing, is asking the user for their language if they enable accessibility. So for example, one would boot the CD, press enter for Enlgish for the time being, but when they choose to use speech for example, before any desktop or installer is shown, they get asked the language they want, with speech or braille as requested. I hope this sounds ok, but as I explained, making the initial language menu accessible is practically impossible.
