I came across this project which might be of interest to those working on
Ubuntu accessibility and/or Orca or other screen readers.

 

The project (currently in beta), is called ModelTalker and is aiming at
developing software that will make it possible for an individual to produce
a SAPI5 speech engine based on their own voice.  The training part is
expected to take about 5-6 hours.  They are currently looking for additional
beta testers.

 

I don't know what the licensing is if one makes a synthesis engine based on
their own voice, but this might be an alternative to producing a better
quality speech engine than what is currently available as the default in
Orca.  The samples sounded pretty impressive.
