Hi, I use Calibre as a library management software and to convert and copy books to my Sony PRS. Calibre supports a wide range of devices, including the iPhone, iPad and iPod. There is a section dedicated to those device in the FAQ [1]. Calibre is in the Ubuntu repositories and the version in Maverick is 0.7.18 which is very close to the latest so it should work fine.
