What apt.sources file are you talking about?

The /etc/apt/sources.list file as well as the /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory contain everything Ubuntu contains plus a few Vinux specific repositories.

The Software Center doesn't segfault on my Vinux 4 systems.

All earlier versions are based on no longer supported versions of

supported in vinux3.0.x.
Some repos that have server related packages may still be active on
vinux3.0.x, but for for full supprt you need Vinux \4.0 that is based on
precise with upgraded packages in some cases and a 3.5 kernel. Much
newer Orca and accessibility stack is coming.

well, given my experience of late, there needs to be a few changes.
The default install of vinux doesn't appear to have much in the
apt.sources file. also, I tried to enter some sources in the software
center dialog only to have it freeze me out before I could press OK
(segfaulted). I may be a version or 2 behind on that distribution as
well.

anyway, I wanted to try Ubuntu for other reasons.

All software that can be installed on Ubuntu can be installed on Vinux.
The softwarecenter is accessible, or easier for many of us is using
apt-get to install from the command line, i.e.
sudo apt-get install vnstat mutt pcmanfm
just to give a few suggestions of programs I always put on any Linux
system, OK, if it's cli-only I won't have pcmanfm, but anyway...
Write me off list if you need suggestions for programs for a given
task. You may also wish to join the Vinux list for more suggestions.

it is ctrl+S after the sound of the drums. If you don't hear the
drums then it is possible that there is an issue with your
audio and orca has cheerfully started and is silently talking.
The installer is basically broken at the moment because there are 7
progress bars at the bottom of the screen which are
visually very very short because they are being used to be coloured
dots.

I will poke some people about that bug, "low" seems a bit
inappropriate given how unuseable it makes the installer

Hello everyone.
I have a real show stopper here. I can't seem to get orca to start
up from the installer dvd. I tried control-s right at boo
t and nothing. the documentation doesn't seem to suggest any other
way to do this.
is there another way?
I really would like to have an operational linux machine here.
I have tried Vinux, but there isn't a lot of available software
other than a few paltry apps and the gnome desktop.
I need this working.
HELP!
