One thing you may possibly need to do once you uncomment that line is to run sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg If this still produces no beep, then it's likely that your device is incapable of beeping before the kernel's sound driver is loaded, in which case, you will hear nothing from GRUB.
