Yes, it doesn't look good, but neither does it look good square else we wouldn't be having this discussion. Look at how the industrial engine deals with it. Everything is round but there are no gaps.

This has the problem Richard identified, that when the scrollbar is all the way up or down, you have a rounded scrollbar against a rounded stepper, which looks bong :-)
