I would like that too, but a background might not work well for the same reasons it couldn't be anything other than black in the old usplash. I was thinking of shining a big spotlight on the logo that revealed a brown radial gradient-like background underneath it, but that doesn't work well with 256 colors. We need 24-bit colors for that. :P
