There is (also) an aesthetic problem with several applets and gadgets that can 
be added to the panel which ignore the panel background. Some of them look 
great until you hover over them, at that moment 
they start looking like a push button which drops the whole facade of a nice 
and visually unique panel. It seems that those applets were created with the 
panel being a widget container, like regular 
applications. I think the clock which is added by default does this.

Regarding the topic: I'm sorry, but I did not know the current look of the 
panel was officially labelled a "problem", is there a bug or usability report I 
missed on this topic so that I can investigate 
possible solutions?
