The Sydney Linux Users Group (SLUG) is very active. We have meetings on the last Friday of every month. Our next meeting is on Feb 29: http://www.slug.org.au/node/90/ We have a segment known as 'SLUGlets', which is a forum for newbies and average users to ask questions and share experiences.
