If you're a new Linux user, I wouldn't recommend the Server Edition. Get the normal version so that you can set everything up in a nice GUI environment. You can still load terminals and do things manually if you like, and of course the GUI can be turned off completely. Windows is known for having crippled and less robust desktop versions and more serious server versions. There is no such distinction in Ubuntu - the 'desktop' version has the exact same code base as the 'server' edition. There should be an MD5SUMS file in the same directory as the ISO when you go to download it. After you've checked and burnt the ISO, boot it and pick the boot option to check the integrity of the CD.
