Thanks for the help. I've assigned a static i.p. address for the Windows box, re-formated my fstab with the i.p. address rather than the host-name, and altered the terms fmask and dmask in fstab to file_mode and dir_mode. Works a treat now.

Thunderbird seems to have sorted itself out now too.
