David, I have had a look at various lists, forums, etc to find information for you. The general advice is to install the following files (1) build-essential, (2) linux-headers-2.6.24-19, (3) kernel package as well as Linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-19-generic.
Some or all of these files you may already have installed. It seems to me that something either was not downloaded or not configured. Another suggestion was to use envyng-gtk which you will find in the repositories. That will identify what driver you need and remove old files and configure the driver.
