The modprobe command would have to be done every time you boot, but i believe you can set the vendor and product ids (which are obtained from lsusb) in /etc/modprobe.d/options and they will stick across reboots. (I haven't tried this.) Then all you would have to do is modprobe usbserial and set up the dialup connection in network manager. Paul
