Hi David, I recommend trying the Ubuntu Live CD on the laptops. You can check whether it supports the video card, the audio device, the web camera, the wifi card, the flash-card reader and some especial keys (Fn+.F.).
I believe the store will allow you to do a test drive on a showcase laptop, if you are really interested in buying it.
