Well Done and thanks Bronze What we have observed over here is that most Noobs just find it a pain and too much hassle to use some of the canonicle interfaces being very new
Thus imo the Ubuntu and linux community in general chase off in part a valuable resource /user pool . Many are so used to gmail and groups some ISP have ditched usenet News groups altogther and thus many stay with this type of forum . Additionally I must say the silence was deafening from Oz ubuntu source forge area when attempting to join Here was able to join the Gmail group far more easily (this is no crticism of the hard working busy members from the oz source forge clan) Thus your Idea gets my vote and a Few Dollars if you need them and could almost guarantee over 20 folks day one Re fragmenting the communities I dont think so IMO the noobs would grow into the better and traditional communities via what you propose and through here in an Australian way . Take West oz Tas and NT ACT representation -- I do not see much on the source forge area from them . As one new Ubuntu user well over 18 months now since I gave him a disc and set him up remarked this morning Some of the Ubuntu folks just talk a bit too geeky for me and no locals. Another indicator is how many whirlpool folks after a bit of whim contact after ahelpful post or offer to send solution script disk via whim or private email would enjoy and use what you propose (IMO) Thus like chicken soup -it cant hurt . I add my how can I help offer to your plan That way Linux and Ubuntu in particular benefits as have many remote and city folks because an individual got of thier tail and just went for it .
