I have seen this happen with both optus and vodafone. Last time I used 3 they didn't seem to have this problem, neither does telstra. Maybe it is just a problem with the huawei modems - dunno If using network manager to control your connection there is an option under the IPv4 tab to specify the DNS servers you want to use.
