Hi Dom I suggest you get a new installer disk - it may be corrupted.
If it still does the same thing, try a normal install (not using wubi) and let it set a dual boot system by itself if that is what you want. Also if you are in Melb - check out Linux Users Victoria (www.luv.asn.au) for their Beginners Workshop and someone can help you there.
