Good evening all, Geoff has contacted me below to see if anyone is available to help the Pine Rivers Computer Club (to the north of Brisbane) with their migration from Windows XP to Ubuntu. With Geoff's permission I've forwarded his email below with all the details.
I will be unable to attend myself but thought I'd see if anyone else was available to help Geoff and the Club out. If anyone has spare time on the 27th of April I would recommend contacting Geoff directly to see how you can help out with their workshop day. I hope you're all preparing for the upgrade to 14.04, I made the switch yesterday and found it very smooth. If anyone wants to hold a release party it's not too late, just send an email to the list with the details. Regards, Jared Norris ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Geoff Isaac <[email protected]> Date: 8 April 2014 10:53 Subject: Pine Rivers Computing April Club Night. To: Jared Norris Hello Jared (Ubuntu Aust.), Pine Rivers Computer Club had a presentation night of Open Source systems after much research over past months trying to ready Members for the Windows XP support closure by Microsoft. MS has been a hard nut to crack owing to the contentment of MS products that many Members had not thought further in their minds that one day product support would alternatively change one's thinking. Club President Mike Dodds pointed out that Microsoft was not leaving 'us' but changing their support basis of products to Tablet and more of Mobile Phone development, plus their recent software development like Window 8, of which some Club Members were experimenting with. Mike demonstrated Ubuntu and Linux Mint 16. A Member mentioned how he was happy to be using Linux Mint 15 along side his Windows Xp. Some Members have expressed interest of obtaining Ubuntu and other Open Source programs for evaluation. (Jared, your donated Ubuntu product is now finding more acceptance as a result of Club Night.) So, Jared and Matthew, we think we may have 'cracked the nut' in changing Members perceptions about a wider range of IT products. In some way, you both have played a part in this and for that I thank you. I certainly have learnt much from our contact! Our Workshop Sunday Apr.27 will feature demo of Ubuntu product and Linux open Source systems as well as sorting out more Window problems that Members seem to keep for such a Workshop day. Please feel free to drop into our Club Night first Monday of month, and Workshop Sunday (forth Sunday of month). We look forward to seeing you. regards Geoff. No virus found in this message.
