Thanks, Chris, for your suggestion. However 'Settings' does not provide 
a place to insert a URL. However your remarks prompted me to change the 
update server to see what would happen. I changed from 'Australian 
server' to 'Main server'. That worked, the updater is now downloading 
packages, quickly as usual.
