Is this the same for backports as well? I'm still not sure if backports
are extras....

Backports are hosted on official archive.ubuntu.com, which does provide deb-src repos for Backports. It's only Extras in question.

And, meaning to be a swine, and I won't follow up on this query [not
this year, anyway], but surely the same thing applies for the hoary-*
mirrormaxes? -  rsync may go crazy, but it will be doing it for the sake
of the GPL

I was wondering though, if some magic apache config could redirect
requests for src debs to a single src server, in order to save rsync
going crazy. mirrormax can pretend to have the source, but when it's
requested, a nice redirect sends apt-get (or whatever) to the real
server to fetch it.

As long as the real server is under your control (the mirror master?)
you know it will be there

Aye, I'm consious of appearing unjust and ungrateful, and you are the
great benefactor, so I thank you and thank you again.
