You have been subscribed to a public bug by Jeremy BĂcha (jbicha): Impact ====== sbuild has recently introduced a new unshare backend that significantly simplifies building .deb packages. unshare is now used by default for most of Debian's official buildds. I believe Ubuntu 25.04's sbuild package [using the unshare backend] is set up to be able to easily build for -proposed which I don't think was as easily possible with the older default schroot method.
Scope ===== Backport sbuild 0.88.3ubuntu2.1 from Ubuntu 25.04 "plucky-updates" to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS "noble" Other Info ========== I have personally been using a local backport of this sbuild version for more than 3 weeks to do a majority of my Ubuntu and Debian packaging and things work well. I intend to keep using the backported version as long as I am using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS for most of my Ubuntu work (which I expect to be true for at least several months). For autopkgtest integration to work well, I also needed autopkgtest 5.47 from plucky but I see that was already handled through the SRU process. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autopkgtest We are working on updating documentation to help people build .deb packages. I believe standardizing on sbuild with the unshare backend for local package building would simplify the documentation. Therefore, it is important that sbuild with the unshare backend be available for the last LTS and non-LTS versions of Ubuntu. See https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- backports/2025-May/023370.html and its reply for discussion about this particular backport. ** Affects: sbuild (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: noble -- [BPO] sbuild 0.88.3ubuntu2.1 from plucky https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2114843 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is subscribed to the bug report. -- ubuntu-backports mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
