gear is a plugin for firefox (at this moment) that lets you use a web application in offline mode. Works only with AJAX based web apps. Normal websites will not work. As far as I know Currently Zoho writer, Google reader, Remember the milk are some applications that supports Gears. the basic idea is the plugin caches data (in case of google reader, feeds) to your hard drive and let you browse the data in offline mode like you normally would in online mode.
