Masnun vai, If you choose ubuntu then you have to do some post installation tasks to make it usable for a windows user. In this perspective I think Linux mint will be more attractive for windows users. And about additional materials you can make them read the blog of ovroniil(http://ovroniil.wordpress.com/). Trust me, it will help them a lot. :)
