Yes, it's now mandatory to use OpenID login and to be a member of the team to be granted editing right. It shouldn't be hard to switch. It ease administration a lot. Being a member of the team means you will receive email notification for bug assigned to it. So you are automatically informed of needed translation (and I won't need this kind of email to reach you next time).
